Accessibilty is important to us at the Ringwood Knox Lutheran Parish! We hope that the information on this site is accessible to all people, particularly those with disabilities. With this in mind we have used good design principles and some special accessibility features on this web site.
General design features
- Valid, best-practice web page coding (HTML and CSS) has been used so that the content on this site will be accessible by any 'user agent'. This could be the latest Internet Explorer web browser, a text only browser, screen reading software for visually impaired people and even a web capable mobile phone.
- We regularly check the accessibilty and appearance of web pages in the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers. We check other browsers only occasionally. If you are experiencing problems accessing our site from your browser please email the webmaster.
- Text sizes are flexible rather than fixed so that they can be re-sized in most modern browsers.
- Internet Explorer version 7: Open the Page menu (keyboard users press Alt P ), move down to select Text Size then across to select the appropriate size from the pop out list. Alternatively use the Zoom feature provided: press Ctrl + on the keyboard to zoom in (increase the page size) and Ctrl - to zoom out.
- Internet Explorer version 6: Open the View menu (keyboard users press Alt V ), select Text Size then select the appropriate size from the pop out list.
- Firefox browser: Press keys Ctrl + to increase text size and Ctrl - to decrease it.
- Opera browser: Press + to increase the text size in 10% increments and press - to decrease text size.
- For other browsers please read the Help information provided with the browser.
- Images are given an appropriate alt attribute to describe them for people with visual disabilities and people browsing web sites without images.
- Links to web pages in other web sites open in a new browser window. Warnings that a new window will open up are given where possible. Please email the webmaster if this approach causes you problems.
- Where a link leads to a non HTML file (such as a PDF document) the link is clearly identified as being for a different file type and the size of the file is also stated. There is usually a link nearby to information on file types used on this web site.
Special features
- A "skip to contents" link is provided at the top of each page to allow users to easily skip over navigation links and go directly to the main page contents.
- Within the major sections of the site – What's On, Worship, Church Life, Resources and About Us – a second skip link is provided to go directly to the navigation choices for that section.
- The home page and special occasion 'feature' pages have a skip to feature link preceding the skip to contents link.
- These links are out of sight for regular users but are read by screen readers for visually impaired people and become visible for users browsing via the keyboard Tab key, usually because of impaired mobility.
- Note: For the Opera browser using the Shift key with the ↑ ← ↓ → arrow keys is a better method for jumping around the web page to the link you wish to activate. Using the Opera skip link keys, A for skipping forwards and Q for skipping backwards, does not work correctly at this time.
